Taxation w/o Representation

Last night I returned from Washington DC. DC is an incredible city, not only b/c its residents live in three states: DC, MD, and VA, but also because of the overwhelming transitory nature of most of them. It is very well laid out toward the center, except for one interesting thing: lettered streets (A, B, C, D), when they reach I, are called "Eye" street. It took me a while to figure this out.

Also, there are very interesting stickers on the parking meters, encouraging citizens to pay for the privelage of parking. They read: "All may park, All must pay."

And I love the license plates.

Multi State

So, the east coast is so close together, that, in taking a trip to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Washington DC, I actually had to travel through 9 states, 10 if you count NY. They are: NY, NJ, PA, CT, RI, MA, DL, MD, DC, VA.

Pennsylvania

So, shortly after touching down in NYC, I got the chance to go visit family for an evening in PA. I love PA, and have such fond memories of childhood trips: the boxwood bushes in front of my grandparents house smell the same, and the cicadas are really loud. Really loud.

Phoning Home

Lauren and I just changed our phone numbers to NYC area codes, arbitrarily choosing the 917 area code. A young Polish woman named Ewa (pronounced Eva) helped us, stopping only briefly to have an argument in Polish with another customer. Now, to get ahold of us, you'll have to dial our fancy new east coast digits:

* * *

If you want, write 'em down, b/c I'll be taking these down in a few days.

Cash Money

For the city that is renowned for having everything you could ever want (delivered), it is amazing the amount of places that only take cash. Coming from Seattle, where I only kept like $2 on me for pinball at Shorty's, it's giving my wallet a real work out.
